The Department of Information Art & Design at Tsinghua University's Academy of Arts & Design (hereinafter referred to as "Information Art & Design Department") celebrates its 20th anniversary. Over these two decades, the department has accumulated a vast sea of academic achievements and teaching practices. For the public, this valuable knowledge wealth is often difficult to fully comprehend and explore in depth due to its professional nature and sheer volume.
How to use cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology to build a bridge that helps the public, scholars, and students understand these twenty years of academic trajectory more intuitively and conveniently, and to actively ask questions and interactively explore the knowledge within, became our core challenge.
This project, "20 Years in Sight: An Information Art Knowledge Graph with AI-Powered Visualized Answers," was born out of this need. We propose an innovative method: based on AI's powerful semantic analysis capabilities and information visualization technology, AI's answers to user questions are no longer limited to traditional text output but are embodied as dynamic, structured visual graphs. This "AI answering with visualization" model aims to enhance the interpretability of information, allowing users to more clearly perceive the connections and evolution of knowledge.
Exhibition & Feedback
This project, as a core component of the "Meta-Link: 20th Anniversary Exhibition of the Department of Information Art & Design, Tsinghua Academy of Arts & Design," was officially launched and exhibited in Hall B of the Tsinghua Academy of Arts & Design from May 17th to May 30th, 2024.
In terms of exhibition layout, the system is presented as a large-scale interactive installation. A user interaction console (desktop touch) is set up in the center, with a giant screen in front displaying the dynamic knowledge graph generated by AI. The overall space and lighting design emphasize a sense of technology and immersion, guiding the audience to focus on the core experience of human-computer dialogue and information visualization exploration.
The installation quickly became the visual core and interactive highlight of the Information Art & Design Department's 20th-anniversary exhibition. The project's achievements were highly recognized by numerous teachers, leaders, and visitors from both within and outside the academy. It not only effectively showcased the department's profound heritage but also provided a valuable model foundation for subsequent academic data visualization displays and interdisciplinary collaborative graph projects.
It inspired new forms of "AI-involved cultural exhibitions," offering a referenceable path for future intelligent exhibition and educational spaces.
